چکیده

Abstract. We study a one-parameter family of countably piecewise linear interval maps, which, although Markov, fail the ‘large image property’. This leads to conservative as well as dissipative behaviour for different maps in the family with respect to Lebesgue. We investigate the transition between these two types, and study the associated thermodynamic formalism, describing in detail the second order phase transitions (i.e., the pressure function is C but not C at the phase transition) that occur in transition to dissipativity. We also study the various natural definitions of pressure which arise here, computing these using elementary recurrence relations.

Metric stability for random walks with applications in renormalization theory

Consider deterministic random walks F : I × Z → I × Z, defined by F (x, n) = (f(x), ψ(x) + n), where f is an expanding Markov map on the interval I and ψ : I → Z. We study the universality (stability) of ergodic (for instance, recurrence and transience), geometric and multifractal properties in the class of perturbations of the type F̃ (x, n) = (fn(x), ψ̃(x, n) +n) which are topologically conjuga...

Renormalisation-induced phase transitions for unimodal maps

The thermodynamical formalism is studied for renormalisable maps of the interval and the natural potential −t log |Df |. Multiple and indeed infinitely many phase transitions at positive t can occur for some quadratic maps. All unimodal quadratic maps with positive topological entropy exhibit a phase transition in the negative spectrum.

An Example of Infinitely Many Sinks for Smooth Interval Maps

We show, for arbitrary > 0, the existence of a C2− unimodal interval map with infinitely many sinks outside a neighbourhood of the critical point. It is known that such C2 maps do not exist.

Sets of Non-differentiability for Conjugacies between Expanding Interval Maps

We study di erentiability of topological conjugacies between expanding piecewise C1+ interval maps. If these conjugacies are not C1 , then they have zero derivative almost everywhere. We obtain the result that in this case the Hausdor dimension of the set of points for which the derivative of the conjugacy does not exist lies strictly between zero and one. Using multifractal analysis and thermo...

A VARIATIONAL APPROACH TO THE EXISTENCE OF INFINITELY MANY SOLUTIONS FOR DIFFERENCE EQUATIONS

The existence of infinitely many solutions for an anisotropic discrete non-linear problem with variable exponent according to p(k)–Laplacian operator with Dirichlet boundary value condition, under appropriate behaviors of the non-linear term, is investigated. The technical approach is based on a local minimum theorem for differentiable functionals due to Ricceri. We point out a theorem as a spe...
